It is the policy of OWEM that anyone who feels called to serve will follow the guidelines set forth in I Timothy 3:8-12:
Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.
The word “deacon” in verse eight literally means “servant” or “one who serves”. These guidelines will apply to anyone who serves with OWEM.
In order to honor God, OWEM requests this of anyone serving.
Ø Worthy of respect, honorable
Ø Sincere, not deceitful or double-tongued
Ø Not pursing dishonest gain; monetary or otherwise
Ø Strong Bible-believing Christian, regularly studying God’s Word
Ø Tested, typically not a brand new Christian
Ø Not malicious talker; not a gossiper or slanderer
Ø Temperate; discreet, prudent and showing self-control
Ø Trustworthy; faithful, dependable
Ø No major problems with spouse or children
